The set was originally published in 22 volumes; volume 23 was added in 1903 and volumes 24 and 25 were added by Harper and Brothers in 1906 and 1907. The Riverdale was the first uniform edition of Mark Twain's works named after one of his residences. The Riverdale Edition was originally offered at a cheaper price than the earlier 1899 American Publishing Company Uniform Editions. It has fewer illustrations overall but has the addition of hand-coloured illustrations as frontispieces in 11 volumes. 25 vols, octavo (204 x 137 mm). Eleven vols with hand-coloured frontispieces and 84 further full-page monochrome illustrations with captioned tissues printed in red. Finely bound in contemporary dark blue crushed morocco, titles and elaborate decoration to spines gilt separated by raised bands, multiple gilt fillets to boards with cornerpieces, dark blue and red morocco doblures with multiple gilt fillets and cornerpieces, red moire silk endpapers, top edges gilt, others untrimmed. Ex-libris bookplate to top of front blanks with offsetting, a fine set.
