Uncommon in a contemporary binding The Winchester edition, pleasantly produced with large type and quality paper, and presenting Austen in a setting worthy of her writings. In this enlarged issue, the set has two additional volumes, Lady Susan and The Watsons, taken from the 1871 Memoir, together with Jane Austen's letters. The Winchester edition was first published in ten volumes in 1898. 12 vols, octavo (208 x 141 mm). Engraved frontispiece, title pages printed in red and black and decorated with a wood-engraving of Austen's monogram. Contemporary brown crushed half morocco by Birdsall, spines lettered in gilt, gilt lozenge tools to compartments, brown cloth sides, marbled endpapers, top edges gilt, fore and bottom edges uncut. Edges unobtrusively foxed; a fine set.
