Pittsburgh, PA: [publisher not identified], 1955. Ephemera. Five corner stapled 8.5x11 inch leaves; pencil annotation on front with date and context. Very Good. Statement opposing “loyalty hearings” and “community witch hunts” resulting from sedition laws, which the statement argues are colluding with “known opponents of integration of Negro children into the schools of the nation” and “advocates of ‘right to work’ laws aimed at weakening unions.” Supports the Pennsylvania Supreme Court’s ruling in favor of Steve Nelson, the Croatian-American CPUSA member charged under the Smith Act. Signatories of the statement include W.E.B. Dubois, Herbert Biberman, Howard Fast, Waldo Frank, Rockwell Kent, and many others.
