The text pages are clean, with light scattered foxing, front page is detached. Joseph Holt Ingraham (1809-1860) was a prolific and popular writer of "dime" novels and stories. The *Southern Literary Messenger*, published in Richmond, Virginia, from 1834 - 1864, was the most important periodical published in the South. Edgar Allan Poe served as editor from December 1835 until January 1837, and remained a regular contributor until his death.
