[No place], 1989. Unbound. Fine. Two variant jacket cover paintings. Watercolor images with text printed on an acetate overlay, each measuring 6½" x 9½" on boards measuring 10½" x 13½" and 11" x 14¼", one with Wendell Minor's label on the verso. One board with the adhesive strip holding the acetate neatly reattached, and the other image with the acetate overlay attached at the top and bottom edges. A couple of corners gently bumped and one board with some marginal inked notes; the images are fine. Two variant jacket watercolors for McMurtry's 1989 novel *Some Can Whistle*. Both were painted by noted artist and illustrator Wendell Minor, who illustrated several dust jackets for McMurtry, including *Terms of Endearment*, *The Evening Star*, *Buffalo Girls*, and *Some Can Whistle*, as well as jackets for Toni Morrison, Ernest Gaines, James Michener, John Hersey, and Gloria Naylor. A similar pool scene with a simplified design was ultimately chosen for the jacket cover.
