Blue publisher's cloth with gray paper-covered boards. Dust jacket toned with rubbing and chips along edges and near folds. Boards shelfworn with toning to edges and cloth sun-faded. Binding sound. Pages unmarked. Edges foxed. Dampstain on top right corner of text block (through page 43), text unaffected but there is a slight ripple to the text block. Ownership inscription on flyleaf verso: "Cee Cee - I am so grateful, Shel" and the name "Mary Celeste" written in green ink on the dedication page. Overall, a very good copy with a good to very good dust jacket. Signed twice by author Toni Morrison without inscription, once on the title page and once above the text on the first page of the novel. Morrison's first novel, which received minimal critical attention upon publication, and of which she said in 1993, “the initial publication of The Bluest Eye was like Pecola’s life: dismissed, trivialized, misread.” Reference: Tessa Roynon, The Cambridge Introduction to Toni Morrison (2013), p. 22.
