New York: Saint Suber (producer),, [1953-54]. With the author's corrections Capote began writing the play in 1953, and Harold Arlen was hired later that year to write the music and co-operate on the lyrics. Capote probably revised this typescript around that time, as he added in his hand to the typed title, "[The House of Flowers] A Musical Play by [Truman Capote] And Harold Arlen." Some 25 pages bear his corrections, ranging from simple cross-outs and corrected words, to several additional lines or instructions. Also included is a carbon typescript of the second act as well as a copy of the finished mimeographed script. 72 page typescript, carbon and ribbon, of the play's first act; with considerable corrections, deletions, and additions in Capote's hand. Very good condition.
