Rare Canadian first edition, hardcover (8.25 x 5.75", 21 x 15 cm) with an unclipped dustjacket over the original tan cloth board with red stamping on the spine, 242 pp. Also known by the title, TAKEN AT THE FLOOD in the U.K., this Christie novel was released in the United States and Canada as THERE IS A TIDE, both titles being inspired by the Shakespeare quote, "There is a tide in the affairs of men, which taken at the flood leads on to fortune ...." from Julius Cesar in a speech by Brutus in Act IV. This Christie mystery features her famous sleuth, Hercule Poirot, with the events playing out at the end of World War II and shortly afterwards. This scarce Canadian first edition shows some wear on the dust jacket and has a very slight stain on the front top cloth and centre. An affordable first edition by the Mystery genre's foremost writer.
