Light toning to margins, image remains remarkably clean, fresh, and bright. A handsome, well-preserved piece. $250. * Founded in 1383, Furnival's Inn was an Inn of Chancery attached to Lincoln's Inn. It holds a rich place in English legal and literary history: Sir Thomas More served as a reader here, and Charles Dickens rented rooms at the Inn from 1834 to 1837, during which time he wrote his breakout work, The Pickwick Papers. This specific depiction by Schnebbelie is an original plate from Robert Wilkinson's monumental topographical work, Londina Illustrata: Graphic and Historic Memorials of Monasteries, Churches, Chapels, Schools, Charitable Foundations, Palaces, Halls, Courts, Processions, Places of Early Amusement and Modern & Present Theatres, In the Cities and Suburbs of London & Westminster (Two volumes, published 1819-1825).
