Blue-gray decorated publisher’s cloth over beveled boards, gilt & blue lettering & decoration front cover & spine, colour plate mounted front cover, a.e.g. (slight shelfwear), NF copy, from the library of Donald Alexander Skene (1898-1938), reporter for the Portland Oregonian, served as a United States Marine during World War I, and graduated Yale University in 1920, w/ his bookplate on front pastedown. First edition of this wonderfully illustrated Edwardian children’s annual, containing fairy tales, morality tales, short stories, poetry, and songs. Of particular interest is the fantastic array of Victorian and Edwardian book illustration, including Francis Darkin Bedford (1864-1954); Charles Edmund Brock (1870-1938), noted illustrator for the Strand, Janes Austen, Dickens, and George Eliot; Gordon Frederick Browne (1858-1932), son of the famed Hablot Knight Browne (Phiz), and one of England’s most prolific illustrators; William Henry Charles Groome, noted landscape artist and book illustrator, Helen Jane Arundel Miles (fl. 1840-1880); George Edward Robertson (1864-1920), and many others.
