Hardcovers, two volumes bound in the original green boards backed with black cloth spines, titled with printed paper labels on the spines. The covers are rubbed & soiled, the corners and head & tails of the spines are chipped with damage to the bottom front corner of the first volume's front cover. The front joint of the second volume is splitting and the labels are stained & chipped. The contents of the volumes collate exactly with the copy in the Gimbel Collection, A56. Volume 1: [i-iii] iv, [no pages 5-12], [13] 7 14-248. Volume 2: [no pages 1-8] [9-13], 14-214 [1 leaf of ads]. The ads are dated 15 March 1841. There is soiling and foxing throughout. Good. The Second American edition, following the Lea and Blanchard edition of 1840. RARE.
