Mansfield Park

A good copy in the original decorative cloth binding with 24 coloured illustrations (including frontispiece and title page) by C E Brock. Part of the 'Series of English Idylls' and now scarce. This edition is notable for the number and quality of the illustrations which capture Austen's characters and the humour in her writings well. The binding is a pale green cloth with elaborate and delicate gilt decoration to the front board and spine. It has been rebacked so it is sound and tight. The front board has a small mark near the spine joint and a tiny bump to the bottom corner tip. The spine is slightly faded down the side nearest to the back board. The back board has a small cloth crease and slight marking. Top page edges gilted. Internally, the decorative endpapers have been preserved with professional repair at the joints. The free endpapers are very toned and there is the bookplate of Pamela Waterman to the fep. The contents are complete and clean with light toning to the paper, particularly towards the page edges. There is occasional light spotting: mainly to preliminaries and to the plain backs of some plates. Pages 23/4 and 25/6 have repair to the side edges. The plate at p229 has a small bottom corner crease. Please enquire if you would like to see additional images.
