Colour-pictorial papered boards; endpapers moderately speckled (a production flaw); paper lightly tanned; a near-fine copy with the fine unclipped dustwrapper (with the printed price of £10.99). The first state identified the author in the Copyright line on the verso of the title page as Joanne Rowling, not J.K. Rowling, and there was an incorrect line break on page [7] (the fourth line from the bottom was dropped after the word 'burnt'). These were amended in the second state; the advertisements first appeared in the third state.
