Publishers, 36 Essex St. London, W. C. 2. Typed dates of September 24th, 1929 [1 1/2 pages], December 10th, 1929 [1 1/2 pages], and March 5th, 1930 [just over one page]. To Mrs. [Sylvia] Lynd, 5, Keats Grove, Hampstead, N. W. 3, on a number of literary matters. 1) : ... I agree with you about keeping to the one book, which is quite long enough. My recollection of the two sequels is, that they were sequels ... I am rather doubtful about making it one of a series. ... 2) : ... Q is a difficult man to pin down ... I don t think there is any use in attempting James Douglas. He broke a contract with this firm years ago and I personally do not want to resume acquaintanceship with him. That mixture of hysteria of insincerity leads nowhere. ... Will you ... [look] in here ...twice a week while I am away ...running your eye over our manuscripts, ... 3) : None of Lady Rhondda s schemes is too attractive ... If she will promise not to write like Henry Jones, we will promise not to be surreptitious. ... We had no luck whatever with a volume of his predecessor, Wyndham Lewis s, best nonsense. ...
