[New York: The New Yorker], 1965. Unbound. Fine. Publisher's galley proof of the first edition. Translated by Dmitri Nabokov. [25]ff., 9" x 12" quarto sheets corner-stapled, printed in a single column, rectos only. Final leaf neatly detached and with a tiny stain at the corner, else about fine. A short story about a Russian expatriate living in 1920's Berlin who discovers his wife has been unfaithful to him with a friend. He orchestrates, and then flees, a duel in the countryside, much to his shame. The story was first published in *The New Yorker*, Vol. XLII, No. 28, September 3, 1966 (the galleys offered here), and a few months later would be published in *Nabokov's Quartet* (Phaedra, August 15, 1966). Almost certainly prepared in small numbers, very uncommon thus.
