Octavo. 190, [1], 9-223pp. Olive green dust jacket with black lettering on the front cover and spine. Dark blue buckram boards with gilt lettering on the spine. Steimatzky's Agency bookseller sticker pasted on the bottom of the interior front cover. "Traveller's Companion" series (printed on the title page, but not on the jacket). This early English-language edition of Vladimir Nabokov's controversial and influential novel, was printed in Israel by the bookstore chain/printer Steimatzky's Agency, having obtained the Israeli rights from original publisher Olympia Press. It is notable as the first time the two parts of the novel had been issued in a single volume, and the earliest hardcover edition. Although it retains the 1955 publication date from the first Olympia edition on the verso of the title page, the book was likely printed sometime around 1958 or 1959. This printing was produced in a limited edition of likely no more than 2000 copies. These were all ink-stamped with a number on one of the interior covers, or as in the case of our copy, on the front flap of the dusk jacket. Ours is #381. An unknown but substantial number of the total print run was supposedly printed in softcover, making the number of extant hardcover copies even less.
