In publisher's red cloth quarter binding with green cloth boards; spine is sunned slightly brown, with gilt lettering. Moderate shelf and edge wear to boards, with rubbing along board edges and at corners. Light bumping to fore corners and along top edge of front board, with exposed board at the fore corners. Some small tears and fraying to cloth at the head and tail of spine. Spine lightly cocked. Light soiling along board edges and spine. Text block is age toned, with some shelf wear and scuffing on the edges. Heavy offsetting on flyleaves. Sparsely foxed throughout. Several of the illustrated plates are faintly stained along the top edge; illustrations themselves are unaffected. Inscribed by Ford Madox Ford in black ink on the half title page: "For Sally + William Bird / with affection from / Ford Madox Ford / Paris 1st March 1938". SH consignment. Shelved in Room A. .
