London: Cape, 1955. First Edition. Hard Cover. Dust Jacket. (London: Jonathan Cape 1955). First UK Edition in dustwrapper. First Edition with shoot correctly printed to page 10. Publisher s black cloth-effect paper over boards, titled in silver. Boards exceptionally bright and clean. No inscriptions. A near fine (or better) copy with just the merest hint of dustiness to the top edge, a slight crease at the head of the spine and a tiny bump to the bottom right-hand corner of the front board. No foxing to the page block edges. The lightest of offsetting to both sets of end-papers. Interior beautifully clean. None of the usual toning to the text block usually encountered. In the flames design Kenneth Lewis illustrated dustwrapper priced 10s 6d net to the inside flap. The near fine dustwrapper is an outstanding example with light rubbing and with several, minor foxing spots to the rear flap and small marks to the edge of the front flap. The verso of the dustwrapper is a little toned and marked although this is not visible to the front of the dustwrapper. What differentiates this copy is that the spine has excellent colouration with no fading and very scarce thus. None of the usual foxing to the back panel. We have been collecting Ian Fleming since the late 1980s and this copy is, without doubt, one of the cleanest and brightest that we have seen. Housed in a custom-made black clamshell box lettered in gilt to the spine. Further photographs available upon request.
