Burroughs in 1942, and despite his early suspicions that Burroughs was an undercover agent of one vintage or another. He met Ginsberg and Jack Kerouac during the same decade, when he was an unpublished poet. Huncke was an avatar of the life they admired familiar with drugs and crime, fluent in street slang, and unhindered by the mores of the day. Ginsberg was picked up for his role in a car crash in the 40s, at a time when Huncke lived with him and Huncke, who was picked up at the same time, took the rap, serving five years in New York state prison.
