Nine pages of publisher's adverts at the rear. Numerous areas of abrasion to the boards. Small open tear to cloth of backstrip. Front hinge going. Text block cracked at half title, as well as in a couple other spots. Johnson, p. 55. Nine short stories. The 1,000,000 Bank Note was written in 1892, while Samuel Clemens was facing financial ruin. The title story was first published in Century magazine in January 1893. The million-pound note symbolizes wealth that cannot be spent.
