Wheaton, [Ill.]: Printed at the Wheaton Flag Office, North Rail Road Street, 1858. 8vo. 16 pp. Original printed wraps, faded, a bit worn and tired, lacking piece at upper corn. A number of corners curled, otherwise clean and sound internally and about good overall. Unrecorded? Not in Byrd or Graff. Not found on OCLC. A note in the Chronicling America entry at the Library of Congress for the Wheaton Flag (1858-18--s), published by N.H. Lewis, indicates it was an anti-slavery paper. Wheaton, about 25 miles due west of Chicago, was surveyed and platted in 1853. The Illinois Institute (later Wheaton College) and the Du Page Co. Agricultural & Mechanical Society were established that same year and the first county fair held the year following. In 1857 Jesse Wheaton donated land to provide a permanent home for the fair. The Village of Wheaton was incorporated in 1859. The "Du Page County Agricultural and Mechanical Society," was formed in 1854. According to Richmond & Valette's "History of the County of Du Page, Illinois [Chicago: 1857], p.67: "Its design is to promote a friendly intercourse among the citizens, as well as improvement and enterprise in the cultivation of the soil, raising of stock, and the manufacture of useful farming and household utensils. The annual fair of this society is held about the middle of September. The place of meeting is now fixed at Wheaton, the society having secured at that place twenty acres of valuable land, fifteen acres of which were donated by
