The covers are soiled with some minor foxing and the spine is splitting along the top and bottom. [16] pages, with profuse black & white illustrations. The covers and the title page are foxed. Good. A rare souvenir program highlighting Katharine Cornell's career as a theater producer. Boldly inscribed and signed in pencil by both Katarine Cornell and Cedric Hardwicke on the title page. The text includes a brief note about securing the American rights from Jean Anouilh under the heading "From Paris", A note from the Adapter titled "Antigone and Jean Anouilh", "Four Bows to the Classics" portraying Katharine Cornell in her classic roles, "Author, Author!" about Anouilh, "The Modern Classics" portraying Cornell in her modern roles, and "In Lighter Vein" about her comedies, "once Every 3,000 Years" about the play, and "The Grand Tour". The Broadway production of "Antigone and the Tyrant" opened on February 8, 1946 at the Cort Theatre (though the theatre is nowhere mentioned in the program). A modern reinterpretation of the original Ancient Greek play by Sophocles as a modern existentialist drama, mirroring Nazi-occupied France, the play explores the themes of resistance against tyranny.
