First edition
Doubleday, Page Company, New York, 1909. Good. First ed. of fantasy detective story written for young people but that will enchant anyone; the author, a political activist who co-founded the Fabian society, wrote fantasy that inspired writers from C.S. Lewis to J.K. Rowling; 340 p., clean and completely unmarked; paper mildly age-toned, but strong; binding firm. In absence of d.j., there is light bumping of corners, age-toning on spine obscures lettering; light blue boards have stains near lettering and white stamped ornamentation.
