This is Volume 36 of The Harvard Classics titled Machiavelli • More • Luther The spine design matches an early P. F. Collier & Son decorative binding, likely produced in the 1910s to early 1920s. The crisp gold stamping and the decorative front cover you showed are characteristic of one of the higher-grade binding options offered for this series. The shield on the spine is the familiar Harvard shield ("VERITAS"), which is standard for this series. Condition: Excellent gilt—the lettering is unusually bright. The spine appears straight, without obvious cocking. The head and tail of the spine show only light rubbing. The raised bands (decorative horizontal rules) remain sharp. No obvious sun fading, which is common with these books. This copy is published by P. F. Collier & Son, New York, the original publisher of the Harvard Classics in the United States. It belongs to the series edited by Charles W. Eliot, former president of Harvard University, who envisioned the collection as a "Five-Foot Shelf of Books" that could provide a broad liberal education through self-study.
