1947-52. Clementine Churchill writes to commiserate on her mother's death, then plans and afterwards reports on a trip to Tuscany, including reminiscing about Winston's painting in Florence. Both the Churchills attended Violet's parties in London, and Winston was an old friend of her mother, Alice Keppel. i) 19 October 1947, Hyde Park Gate stationery, 241 x 191 mm: "I was truly grieved to read of the death of your dear mother. She had among all her brilliant qualities the rare gift of the kindness of heart; and she diffused enjoyment of life and warmth around her". Clementine regrets she missed the memorial service and invites her to visit her in London. Alice Keppel, aristocrat, hostess, and mistress of Edward VII, died on 11 September. ii) 1 July 1952, Chartwell stationery, 241 x 189 mm: "I am not very well & have been told by my doctor to go & do a care at Montecatini; which I find is quite close to Florence. I go there next Monday & shall be there till July the 26th. Shall you by any chance be at [Trefusis's Tuscan home] l'Ombrellino?... I shall have to go somewhere for a bit before coming back to England". She comments on the heatwave in England and hopes it will not be too hot in Italy. iii) 15 July 1952, Grand Hôtel & La Pace Montecatini Terme stationery, 2 leaves, 262 x 171 mm: "My dearest Violet, it's a real disappointment that you are not in the shade of your Ombrellins".
