Primer of Scientific Management. First edition of this pioneering study of occupational efficiency, authored by the industrial psychologist and the first woman elected to the National Academy of Engineering. This copy was owned, and presumably read carefully, by an early captain of American industry: Sylvester Stephen Marvin (1841-1924), who built the National Biscuit Company into one of the largest baking corporations in America.This work is credited to Frank Bunker Gilbreth (1868-1924), but it was actually authored by his wife Lillian (1878-1972), a key collaborator in his work on management consultancy and a prominent industrial psychologist in her own right. After Frank Gilbreth's death, Lillian Gilbreth assumed the presidency of their consulting firm and continued to guide it for several decades. Marvin's ink inscription, dated January 1913, is on the front free endpaper verso, while the publisher's slip is tipped in after the front pastedown.
