Turkey: 1857. Framed. Image measures 14x19 in a 18x24.5 gold metal frame. This beautifully calligraphic decree issued in October 1857, by Ottoman Sultan Abdülmecid I 1823-1861 , states the promotion of a British soldier Daniel Grayville? to the fifth rank and awards him with a kita , for bravery in battle. Dated 2- Rabi 1274 1857 Calligraphic black lettering, with the sultan's tughra in gilt at the top. Typed description from the Smithsonian Museum with some inaccurate
