Item #374961 George Godfrey 1852-1901 , born on Prince Edward Island, began boxing professionally in 1879, beating Charles Hadley via sixth-round knockout on 23 February 1883 to become World Colored Heavyweight Champion. He would lose the title at age 36 to Peter Jackson in 1888, in a 19th-round technical knockout.
