Ladies' Golf. First edition of this beautifully produced book by the trailblazing Irish championship golfer. This copy has a July 1904 inscription to Florence Emma Bourn (1871-1939), a member of the Tyneside Golf Club who often competed in national tournaments under the name Mrs T. W. Bourn. The inscriber signs "F. H." and was perhaps the author's sister Florence, likewise an accomplished golfer.Hezlet (1882-1978) came from a natural golfing family, her other sister - Violet - no less proficient with driver and putter. Her main rival, however, was Rhona Adair, a clubmate at Royal Portrush. "Between them they won four British amateur championships during 1899-1903. Although she could not drive the ball as far as Adair, Hezlet was more accurate. Her stylish swing led many to account her the most complete golfer, man or woman, they had seen. Also admired for her consistency, outstanding iron play, and capacity for rallying from a losing position, she was widely acknowledged as the finest women golfer of her day" (DIB). In 2025, her blue plaque was unveiled at Royal Portrush.
