According to the author s own website, this book was never issued as a hardback. It was a trade paperback original. The book I am selling is a hardback. It is finely bound with marbled paper covered boards, gold trim, and a heavy cloth spine. See photos. The book comes in a Near Fine slipcase of sturdy construction. The book and slipcase are trade paperback size, but the book is a nicely bound and sturdy hardback. This book came from the estate of a collector of mystery fiction. The collector had a first printing of Arthur Conan Doyle s Hound of the Baskervilles as well as many signed limited editions by James Lee Burke, Lawrence Block, Robert Crais, and many others. Because many of the collector s books were signed limited editions published by the Scorpion Press in the UK, I thought this book might also be from Scorpion, but their website does not list it. The only publisher listed in this book is Ballantine, a part of Random House. Scorpion books list Scorpion as the publisher. It is possible that Scorpion, or some other fine bindery, took a first edition signed trade paperback and rebound it as a hardback with marbled covers.
