RARE work on the end of the moveable/handset type newspapers (linotype press). "The Sound of Words" reflects the clatter created by the Linotype and the handsetting of "hot metal" type during the letterpress newspaper days. It describes the final months of the last letterpress papers in Michigan: The Freeport News and Clarksville Record (published by same printer, and the readers that were sorry to see them go. Along the way, "The Sound of Words" also chronicles the other 7 letterpress weeklies remaining in the U.S. at the time. In short, the book, designed in Mexico City by one of Mexico's leading graphic artists, is intended to offer the feel and texture of the letterpress papers that were not so much newspapers as they were, in the words of Freeport co-publisher Ron Geiger, "a letter from a friend." Oversized softcover measuring approximately 12.4 inches high by around 8.4 inches wide. VERY GOOD+ Condition with light wear, creasing to the top right of front cover and top page edges and some very light soiling.
