This work follows a cast-away boy living on an island.It was later turned into a 1959 film. Captain Frederick Marryat (1792-1848) was a Royal Navy officer, writer and children s novelist, known for being an early author of nautical fiction. His works were admired by the likes of Mark Twain and Ernest Hemingway, the most famous being his semi-autobiographical Mr. Midshipman Easy and the children s novel The Children of the New Forest . With four pages of publisher s advertisements to the rear of each volume.Volume I is illustrated with four plates including a frontispiece; Volume II is illustrated with four plates including a frontispiece. In a full cloth binding with gilt stamped to the front cover with blind stamped decor. Externally a trifle worn, with bumping to the head and tails of the spine and the extremities resulting in chipping and loss to the cloth. Ownership inscription to the front endpaper; a bookplate has been removed from the front pastedown. Internally generally firmly bound, hinges are starting but remain generally firm. Pages are bright and clean bar the occasional spot. Very Good
