The Australian Historical Monographs were written or edited by Australian historian and prolific writer, George Mackaness. He wrote or edited 41 monographs between 1935 and 1962. This is Monograph number XL published in 1961. It was issued in two parts (ie two seperate booklets). Full title: Recollections of Life in Van Diemen's Land by William Gates, One of the Canadian Patriots Author: William Gates Editor: George Mackaness. Part I - No 20 of a limited print run of 150 copies and signed by Mackaness (see photo) Part II - No 20 of a limited print run of 150 copies and signed by Mackaness (see photo) This is the scarce limited first edition (not the later Dubbo reprint), in quite good condition.
