This copy is from the library of Dean Rusk (1909-1994), Secretary of State in the Kennedy and Johnson administrations.During the Second World War, Rusk served on the staff of Joseph Stilwell, America's most senior commander in the CBI theatre. He crossed paths with Mountbatten again two decades later, during the US-backed India-Pakistan negotiations over Kashmir. At the British government's request, Mountbatten played an important mediatory role.The photographs in this richly illustrated work were personally selected by Mountbatten.
