The earliest two photos show young Leonhauser as a cadet at West Point, one a group portrait with his class with a pencil line pointing to him posed on the steps of a building, and one at the tender age of seventeen with two other young men at their first camp. There are two photos from his posting to Davids Island in New York Harbor in 1892,
