Dissertazione Intorno alla Libertà dell'uomo. First edition of this scarce Italian essay on free will, motive, and necessity, signed in the introductory address only with the initials "F.L.B.". The author begins from Wolff's definition of liberty as the soul's power to choose spontaneously among possible actions, before attacking the moral consequences of philosophical necessity in Leibniz, Spinoza, Hobbes, and Bayle's account of Spinozism. The essay's central concern is not political freedom but the compatibility of human choice, moral responsibility, natural causation, supernatural grace, and divine justice. The work belongs to the 18th-century Catholic reception of Leibnizian and Wolffian philosophy.We have traced only three copies institutionally in Florence, Rome, and Cagliari.
