Digest bills itself as a magazine for eaters and thinkers, asking how food shapes the way we live. It's certainly not written for people of lukewarm spirit. New York is the center of its universe, but there is some good food elsewhere (though be warned, the first words in this issue are “I could never voluntarily live in California.”) Actually, aside from a detailed tour of the culinary delights of Middle Village, Queens, this issue robustly explores the world: Tea plantations in Sri Lanka, a gluten-free bakery in Paris that is the brain-child of Thomas Teffri-Chambelland , an ode to chowder in Rhode Island, the Richmond Night Market in Vancouver, BC. There’s more, all of it a little quirky, sometimes practical, sometimes sentimental. Worth a read. Paperback. Color photographs throughout.
