Spiritualism in the Light of Occult Science. First edition. This work collects articles written for Fortune's journal Inner Light comparing the teachings of spiritualism and occultism, and distinguishing between what she saw as commercial spirit mediums and "cosmic mediums" such as herself. Fortune was strict in her insistence that the spirits of the dead should never be contacted without good reason.The pragmatic and commonplace style of Violet Mary Firth (1890-1946), known as Dion Fortune, allowed her to integrate occult practice into the life of ordinary readers. Her occult society, the Fraternity of the Inner Light, founded in 1924, provided training in occult rituals. She studied psychotherapy at the University of London before the outbreak of the First World War and often combined ritual magic with psychoanalysis. During the Second World War the society launched a "Magical Battle of Britain", during which members concentrated their mental energies to attack the "cloud" of Nazism over Germany.
