Ueber eine Entdeckung nach der alle neue Critik der reinen Vernunft durch eine ältere entbehrlich gemacht werden soll. First edition of the author's defence of his own philosophy, a response to the Kantian/anti-Kantian split in German philosophy after the publication of the Critik der reinen Vernunft in 1781. The two factions pursued an extended literary dispute across books, lectures, and journals, the most dangerous of which was Johann August Eberhard's Philosophisches Magazin (1788), founded explicitly to publish criticism of Kant. The Entdeckung, provoked by Eberhard's early articles in the Magazin, is Kant's primary contribution to the controversy, which was ultimately won by the Kantian faction.
