Manuale Tipografico. First Bodoni edition, one of 26 copies for presentation, with the printed presentation "This copy has been printed for David Earl of Crawford", and with an autograph card from the printer Giovanni Mardersteig "for David from GM. Verona, September 1969", alongside a pencilled presentation note to the front free endpaper. A further 180 numbered copies were also issued.David Lindsay, 28th Earl of Crawford and 11th Earl of Balcarres (1900-1975) served as chairman of the National Trust from 1945 to 1965, alongside serving as trustee of the Tate and National Galleries, the British Museum, and the National Library of Scotland.The book is a facsimile of Bodoni's 1788 Manuale Tipografico, a celebrated collection of roman and italic typefaces by the great Italian printer. Of the 1788 original, around 150 copies were printed, and with many kept in printing houses as type specimen books, not many have survived.
