Some Account of the Public Life, and a Selection from the Unpublished Writings, of the Earl of Macartney. First edition. Barrow served as Macartney's comptroller and private secretary during the 1792 embassy to China and his governorship of the Cape of Good Hope. The embassy marked the beginning of Barrow's meteoric rise. Later, as second secretary to the Admiralty, he presided over a formative period in British exploration.
