Document signed by Louis XIV, bound into: Louis XIV et ses amours, galerie historique. Louis XIV orders Frédéric-Magnus, Prince de Salm, to disband a company in the foreign cavalry regiment under his command.Dated 10 January 1660, the document instructs Salm to send the officers home with assurances of the king's satisfaction with their conduct, and to enrol the light horsemen in other companies. It is countersigned by Michel Le Tellier, secretary of state for war. Frédéric-Magnus (1606-1673) raised a regiment on 20 February 1657 for service in the Franco-Spanish War. Serving with the Army of Flanders, Salm was present at the siege of Dunkirk and the Battle of the Dunes in 1658. The war ended in November 1659, although Salm's regiment was not formally dismissed until 20 July 1660.The document is bound into the first edition of Louis XIV et ses amours, comprising a series of plates and an anonymous biographical essay on Louis XIV and his favourites, attributed by Barbier and others to Nicolas de Bourbon Conti. An octavo edition followed later that year.
