Vtg Walt Whitman Leaves of Grass Peter Pauper Press Ltd. Ed. 1/1100 Boyd Hanna Beautiful limited commemorative edition of Walt Whitman’s Leaves of Grass, published by The Peter Pauper Press of Mount Vernon, New York & illustrated with original wood engravings by Boyd Hanna in 1942. This special fine-press edition was produced in a limitation of only 1,100 copies, with this example individually numbered 520. According to the limitation statement, the book was printed using Waverley & Lydian type on paper specially mould-made by the Hurlbut Paper Company. Binding was completed by the Russell Rutter Company, and notably, Boyd Hanna’s wood engravings were printed directly from the original blocks. The volume features a beautiful decorative binding with patterned red paper-covered boards, a contrasting brown spine & gilt lettering. The text is printed on substantial deckle-edge paper & is accompanied by striking two-color wood engravings throughout. The upper page edges are gilt. Even better, this example retains its original pale blue-gray slipcase with printed Walt Whitman / Leaves of Grass title label, an important feature for collectors of Peter Pauper Press & American fine-press books.
