Peake assisted in the Palestinian expedition reported in the first paper and is mentioned on page 2.Frederick Gerard Peake (1886-1970) was the founder and first commander of the Arab Legion. He was also a friend of T. E. Lawrence, and has been called "one of the most colorful figures in the turbulent Middle East after the disintegration of the Turkish Empire" (New York Times).Peake is mentioned on page 2, in an article reporting on an early archaeological survey of the region of Transjordan. The first part of the expedition was undertaken in December 1932 as a desert-crossing from Mafraq to Kilwa, unearthing a number of artefacts and inscriptions. The authors wrote that "the expedition was indebted... to Col. F. G. Peake, CBE, head of the Arab Legion, for placing at its disposal an army truck, with a guard of an officer and six soldiers, because of the dangerous country through which the expedition passed".
