Dubai. Lu'lu'at al-khalij. First edition of this work on Dubai, richly illustrated with colour images of the old and new city, published three years after the establishment of the UAE. We have only traced three institutional copies. It begins with an overview of government buildings, including the al-Maktoum palace, traditional architecture, with the wind towers of al-Bastakiya, and recent urban developments, such as parks, the road network, and the banks of Dubai Creek, portrayed in stunning aerial views. The sections on trade and industry present the burgeoning infrastructure of the 1970s, from oil wells to the airport, hotels, and the transforming coastal areas. The final part is devoted to services, education, and traditional Dubai activities.
