"You Discover Saudi Arabia" promotional kit. A promotional kit issued by Aramco to teachers across the US. This is an early example containing the fifth printing of Getting to know Saudi Arabia (released in the same year as the first), and. The contents explore the history and culture of Saudi Arabia, illustrated with photographs of historical figures, company personnel and oil wells, and Saudi architecture. Publication of the first instalment of Aramco World in November 1949 marked the beginning of a two-decade publicity blitz emphasizing Aramco's paternalism, during which its New York publicity department "turned into a vehicle for production and dissemination of the firm-as-development-mission" (Vitalis, p. 123).The contents of this kit target multiple age groups. The larger Getting to know Saudi Arabia volume is highly illustrated and likely intended for a younger audience. It comes with objects that demonstrate aspects of life in Saudi Arabia, including two stamps, one of which for air mail, and examples of the 1 and 2 qirsh coins, a denomination that was discontinued in the 1970s. By contrast, the posters and study guide seem to be aimed towards an older readership of graduates looking to work in the oil industry.
