The Court of King James the First; First edition, an attractively bound set, with the engraved bookplate of the historian Hugh Trevor-Roper.Trever-Roper (1914-2003) was tasked by British Intelligence in 1945 to ascertain the details of Hitler's death. Through an extensive series of interviews with witnesses and examinations of primary source materials - which he recounts in his most famous book, The Last Days of Hitler (1947) - Trevor-Roper concluded that Hitler was in fact dead and had not fled Berlin, as was being reported in Soviet propaganda. He is perhaps most notorious, however, for his authentication of the Hitler Diaries (1981-1983), which were later determined to be forgeries.
