Pawnee Naming Ceremonial. Near Pawnee Oklahoma, Armistice Day, November 11, 1932. The Naming of Wyo-La Shar.

£25 · Offered by Maggs Bros Ltd

A well illustrated booklet privately published for a ceremony honouring Robert Spurrier Ellison (1875-1945), a white lawyer and member of the House of Representatives originally from Indiana, and subsequently Colorado and Wyoming. He served on various historical committees, and wrote and financed a history of the Pawnee Nation, for which the Tribal Council bestowed upon his the honour of a Pawnee name: Wyo-La Shar. The booklet also gives information of other white men who had received Pawnee names, and the ceremony was conducted on Armistice day to also honour the legacy of Pawnee servicemen in the American military.
