Tales from the Russian. Second edition in English of this collection of four stories by the writer often called the Russian Sterne, identical to the first edition of 1803 but with a additional dedication page, translator's preface, and plates. The four stories are "Lisa", "Flor Silin" "Natalia", and "Julia", which brought the European sentimental movement into Russian literature.Karamzin (1766-1826) is seen as "the single most influential 18th-century Russian prose writer" (Terras, p. 215). After 1803, he devoted the rest of his life to his 12-volume History of the Russian State (1818-26).
