Africa.- Beard (Peter, 1938-2020) [George Adamson sitting beside a lion], original photograph signed and inscribed "To George & friend", slight creasing to edges, mounted, image c.230 x 310 mm., overall c.368 x 450 mm., Nov 14th, 1969. *** George Adamson (1938-2020) was a British conservationist based in Kenya, who became known as Baba ya Simba ("Father of Lions" in Swahili) having devoted his life to raising and rehabilitating captive or orphaned lions with the aim to release them back into the wild. He became very well known through his wife, Joy Adamson's biographical work "Born Free" which later became a film. See also lots xxx
